For most of my life I felt adrift on waters I could not navigate. Despite many years in therapy, the water's deep currents always got the best of me. A few years ago, after reading Kate Manne's book, I was able to name it--I was lost on a sea of misogyny. Deep in my psyche I was contending with forces that maintain the patriarchal structures which oppress, malign, and silence women, particularly women of color, girls, LGBTQ, and non-binary individuals.
I’ve enjoyed periods of smooth sailing, episodes of growth, when I thought I had finally found my strength and my bearings, only to be blown off course again. There were times I nearly drowned. The pandemic lockdown was one such time, when the forces, which subjugate women threatened to destroy me. That is, until my dream life came to the rescue.
Working with my therapist, I started a dream journal and made it my daily practice, which initiated a period of intense creativity. Before I knew it, I had written the first draft of a fictionalized memoir.

It takes considerable time and effort to maintain the website and craft a narrative that exposes all the subtle, covert ways systemic misogyny impacts women's lives, leaving scars that span lifetimes and generations.
Being undetected, these strategies are all the more destructive in undermining women at every turn. By providing every day examples of the pervasive ways misogyny oppresses, controls, and silences women, women of color, girls, LGBTQ, and non-binary individuals, I hope the book and the resources on this site will help others navigate their way free of misogyny's toxic waters. The more we share our wisdom and our stories, the more skilled we'll become at recognizing and disabling misogyny's covert strategies before they do more harm!
Writing Pillow Talk reawakened my determination to live a full life, one free of the pain and the bitter disappointment that my mother, that her mother, my sisters, and countless women have had to suffer. I dedicate my book and my blog posts to them and to my daughters.
